"Relax. You will become an adult. You will figure out your career. You will find someone who loves you. You have a whole lifetime; time takes time. The only way to fail at life is to abstain."

“In truth, we drink from this great paradox daily: though everyone shares this moment we are living right now, no one experiences this moment more directly than you. No one can say what it feels like for you to be alive but you. No one needs permission to be alive, to stay alive, to know the joy of touching your unrepeatable hand to the earth.”

The journey to the work I’m exhibiting in Saints + Jumbies started in early 2012 with the first Jumbie - my Maker + mender mask. The concept and the process had only been stirrings then — germinal ideas. What nurtured the outcome is what inspires all of my work; personal experience. Saints + Jumbies is a visual journey through deeply personal space + time. Within this context, I created out of what haunted and comforted me — a mythology of sorts, the characters of which travel between substance and ether.

#TheEveningChill Andre 3000 - Take Off Your Cool feat. Norah Jones

This is also the song I think my friends would pick in response to my ?uestionOfTheDay. I have this bad habit of trying to put out this image that I have everything under control… that I’m Calm, Cool, and Collected. SO much to a point that unless I really need to talk about it, I don’t open up. Just an urge to remain stoic and unaffected by everything when I’m really torturing myself inside.

Trackname — Take Off Your Cool (feat. Norah Jones)
